634 assistive devices costing Rs 21.70 Lakh provided to 297 PwDs at 4 camps held this month
Ramban:Social Welfare Department Ramban, in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a public sector enterprise of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, Friday organised a ‘Samajik Adhikarita Shivir’ for providing aids and assistive devices to Divyangjan (differently-abled) under Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) scheme.
The Chairperson, District Development Council, Dr. Shamshad Shan; Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam and President Municipal Council, Ramban, Sunita Kumari distributed 191 aids and appliances costing to Rs. 7.8 Lakh among 95 beneficiaries which included Tricycles for Adults, Tricycles for Children, Wheelchairs Adult and Small, CP Chair, Hearing Aid, MSIED kit, Smart Cane, Braille Kit, Crutches, Walking Sticks, Rolator Calipers, Artificial Limbs.
It was informed that the main objective of the government’s ADIP Scheme, in operation since 1981, is to assist people in procuring assistive aid and appliances that can help in their socio-economic development.
District Social Officer Ramban, Waheed-Ur-Rehman along with other officers of the department coordinated the programme.
As many as 297 specially-abled persons across Ramban district have been provided 634 free appliances worth Rs.21.70 lakhs at four camps held at Gool, Banihal, Ukhral and Ramban Town.
In the first camp held at Banihal on August 10, 58 beneficiaries were given 131 free appliances worth Rs.4.32 lakh; at Ukhral on August 11, 75 beneficiaries were given 160 free aids worth Rs 4.91 lakh and in Gool on August 12, 69 beneficiaries were give 152 free appliances worth Rs.4.79 lakh.
