DGP reviews security, I-Day preparedness at Rajouri, Jammu

Says “Efforts to track down anti-peace elements to continue”

Rajouri, Jammu: Director General Police Dilbag Singh on Tuesday visited Rajouri and Jammu and reviewed the internal and border security arrangements of these districts during two separate meetings. At Jammu the DGP also reviewed arrangements for the forthcoming Independence Day.

The DGP first visited Rajouri where he was received by ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh, DIG RP Range Vivek Gupta and other officers. Besides ADGP Jammu and DIG RP Range, the meeting at Rajouri was attended by Brig. 13 Sector RR, Ajay Sharma, SSP Rajouri Sheema Nabi Qasba, CO IRP 2nd Bn. Abdul Rashid, SP CID CI Rajouri, Shri Balwant Raj, 2IC CRPF 72 Bn. K.C Ahlawat, Asst. CO 72 CRPF, Vinod Kumar, ASP Nowshara Amit Verma, ASP Headquarters Rajouri Vivek Shekhar Sharma and other jurisdictional officers.

Addressing the joint review meeting at Rajouri the DGP stressed upon the officers to ensure high alertness in the border areas and hinterland, to check any infiltration attempt. He appreciated J&K Police personnel and security forces for neutralizing two militants in Thanamandi and added that efforts would continue to track down the anti-peace elements. He directed the officers to remain extra alert as terror outfits are continuously trying to use drones for terrorist activities.

The DGP stressed for fight against narco-terrorism as attempts are being made to involve our youth in the menace. He directed for strengthening Naka points on Mugal road as also on national highway to keep check on transportation of drugs and peddlers.

Talking to reporters the DGP said that launching pads across the border with the support of ISI and associated agencies are still active and around 250 to 300 militants are getting trained in the camps and attempts are being made to push them to this side. He added that Police and security forces have strengthened the anti-infiltration grid both at the LoC and hinterland to foil all attempts. He said that in recent times “Four militants who were killed in Bandipora had crossed over to this side through Machil and Gurez sectors while in Rajouri two militants were killed recently and there is information regarding the presence of two more militants. The efforts are on to track them down, he added.

He said that in 2017 and 2018, 57 youth crossed over to the other side of the LoC on valid documents and visa. “They joined militant groups there. Among them, 17 infiltrated and were killed in various encounters. 13 are still active in Kashmir while 17 continue to remain on the other side, he said. The DGP said that Pakistan had established Gazwat force to disturb the communal harmony in J&K and added that with the joint efforts of JKP and other forces the group has been completely destroyed.

He said that Pakistan is using drones for militant activities but J&K Police and other security forces have strengthened the counter security grid to meet this challenge effectively. He said that Jammu and Kashmir Police and NIA during the last two days have raided 56 locations in the valley for their support of militant activities in J&K adding that militant funding and its support system is being thoroughly investigated. He said that Pakistan is continuously making attempts to lure misguided youth towards militancy and reactivate some ex-militants to revive its militant structure at various places in J&K and added that these evil attempts will be foiled.

Later, the DGP visited Jammu where he chaired officers meeting at Police Headquarters and reviewed the security scenario of Jammu and arrangements for Independence Day. ADGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh, DIG, JSK Range Atul Goel, AIG (Tech) PHQ, Rahul Malik, SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli, SSP CI Jammu Shridhar Patil, SSP SB Jammu Rohit Baskotra and officers attended the meeting at PHQ. Range DIGs M. Suleman Choudhary, Vivek Gupta, Udayabhaskar Billa and district SSPs of Jammu Zone attended the meeting through video conferencing.

During the meeting, the DGP directed the officers to be alert to thwart any evil designs of militants. He directed the officers to enhance cooperation between different forces at different levels to strengthen the security of the border and highway grid. He directed the officers that “whatever extra measures are required should be taken to counter the militant activities”. Stressing for strengthen the border, highway and hinterland security grid, the DGP directed the officers to formulate the comprehensive security plans for desired results. The arrangements regarding the Independence Day celebration were also thoroughly discussed. The officers briefed the DGP regarding the security scenario and security measures put in place in their respective jurisdictions to ensure a peaceful and trouble-free environment for the people.
