Kupwara,: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Imam Din Tuesday inaugurated a training cum awareness programme of the Horticulture department, at Town Hall here.
Large number of farmers from various areas of Kupwara district participated in the day-long programme.
Speaking at the occasion, the DC said that the Horticulture sector is one of the major sources of income to a large population and there is a good scope for increasing the horticulture productivity in the district.
He directed the Chief Horticulture Officer Kupwara to ensure maximum coverage under high density plantation of apple and walnut in the district and he also directed for installation of walnut processing units under ODOP and other allied schemes.
The DC also asked the Chief Horticulture Officer to conduct more such awareness camps in the district especially in rural and hilly areas so that people get benefitted.
He stressed upon the orchardists and farmers to avail the benefits of a number of farmer welfare schemes to increase their productivity and income.
Earlier, the Chief Horticulture Officer gave details of various schemes of Horticulture development which have loan and subsidy components. These schemes include MIDH, PMDP, RKVY, CAPEX, SMAM, ATMA and other schemes.
The experts from Horticulture and allied departments provided thorough awareness to the farmers about various scientific techniques for increasing their productivity and income.
