Srinagar: Former Union Minister Prof Saif Ud Din Soz on Saturday said that trust defict between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the central government is at it’s “zenith’s hieght” saying that people have deep suspicions on the domicile figures published by Jammu & Kashmir Government.
In a statement issued on Saturday Prof Soz said “to the credit of Central Government, the trust deficit between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the Central Government is at It’s zenith’s height”, adding that “meanwhile, people have deep suspicions on the domicile certificate figures published Jammu and Kashmir Government ”
Stating that “J&K Government has camouflaged the figures on domicile certificates issued by it (J&K Government) by highlighting figures on West Punjab Refugees, Valmikis and Gorkhas, which constitute less than one lakh people”, Soz said “J&K Govt. has itself indicated figures – 55931 WPRs, 2754 Valmikis and 789 Gorkhas”, adding that “the number of certificates issued to these segments of society totals upto one lakh only”.
The Administration must explain how 25 lakh Domicile Certificates were issued in Jammu and 15 lakhs in Kashmir, during just one year!
He also said that J&K Government must come clean on this subject, stating therein that ” It would be in its own interest to issue a ‘WHITE PAPER’ on its policy and criterion, giving details of important statistics, while covering social segments of the J&K “!
Saying that “J&K Government would also be well advised to appear in the public eye as a credible institution, beyond any doubt”, Prof Soz said “the general run of population must know how 25 lakh certificates were issued in Jammu and 15 lakh certificates in Kashmir, just in one year”!
Stating that “J&K Government should realize that it is a delicate subject of great public and social importance”, Soz said “meanwhile, the entire exercise, in this connection, done by the UT Administration appears to be doubtful”, adding that “J&K Govt. must explain its position further and take the people into confidence.”
