Shopian: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya Saturday convened a meeting of concerned officers here for effective management of solid waste in the district.
During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues pertaining to the conservation of environment in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that solid waste management is an important component for sustainable development and needs special focus in letter and spirit. He said every department and functionary associated with it shall put in a committed effort to achieve the desired results on the ground.
Vaishya stressed upon them to involve sarpanches and panches to make the mission a great success and also create awareness among the masses regarding ‘no use of single use plastic’ in their area.
The DC exhorted upon the officers present in the meeting to gear up their activities for the collection of the plastic waste material from their respective jurisdictions which will be further collected by the department for dumping at a suitable site fixed for the purpose.
He directed the officers to take concrete steps in segregation of waste at source for its safe and proper disposal and stressed to ensure waste collection and its disposal in every Panchayat Halqa and in remote areas of the district.
He also enjoined upon the officers for dumping the garbage, removing it entirely and intensively cleaned by the teams of sanitation and put extra effort to keep the district clean.
The DC also asked the officers of the concerned departments to work with full energy and utmost zeal to make the mass movement a success.
Among others, Assistant Commissioner Development, Shopian Tehsildars, District Panchayat Officer, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Shopian and Block Development Officers were present in the meeting.
