DC Jammu presides over Wushu Competition

Emphasis laid on promoting sports culture among youth

Jammu: Deputy Commissioner Anshul Garg Saturday said that Jammu & Kashmir administration is committed to provide the best avenues and infrastructure to the sports-loving youth to channelize their energy towards a positive direction.
He was speaking as Chief Guest here at a Wushu competition held in Bhagwati Nagar.
ACG Rakesh Dubey was the Guest of Honor while Dr. Taran Singh was the Special Guest on the occasion.
The competition was organized by J&K Sports Council in collaboration with Wushu Association of J&K as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed on the need to encourage the youth to engage in sports for developing leadership quality besides character for a successful future.
Citing the example to Neeraj Chopra, who has won the Gold Medal in Men’s Javelin Throw event at Tokyo Olympics, he motivated the young generation to participate in sports and extracurricular activities. He stressed on creating bigger platforms for young sportspersons to enable them to display their talent and skills.
While congratulating Neeraj Chopra for his landmark performance, the Deputy Commissioner hoped that more Jammu youth follow his footsteps and achieve big and bring glory to the county at national and international events.
The Deputy Commissioner also appreciated the Sports Council for its commitment for promotion of sports activities in Jammu & Kashmir. He said that Sports Council is doing the remarkable work in order to involve more youths in games, hence, enhancing sports culture in the region.
The Divisional Sports Officer Ashok Singh, while speaking on the occasion, said that 10 teams comprising men and women players along with solo performers participated in the competition.
S.P Singh Manager Mini Stadium Parade, Vikas Dogra, Incharge Bhagwati Nagar, Coaches/Referee Ashish Jamwal, Ajaypaul Singh, were also present on the occasion.
