Appliance distribution camp for Divyangjans organised at Udhampur

Udhampur:Social Welfare Department Udhampur, in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a Public Sector Enterprise under the control of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, Friday organised a camp for distribution of free aids and appliances among Divyanjan starting at Panchayat Ghar, Rehambal of District Udhampur here Friday.
Such camps are organized under the Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) Scheme of Government of India. The camp was held under the overall Supervision of Deputy Commissioner, Indu Chib and District Social Welfare Officer, Gourav Gupta.
The event was attended by District Development Council Chairperson Lal Chand, Chairman, Block Development Council, Balwan Singh, Sarpanches and Panches of the area. The camps are being organized at the time when the whole country is celebrating 75th years of Independence under the Campaign: “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav”.
The camp forms the series of 7 camps being organized across the district Udhampur to benefit 176 beneficiaries during which Tricycles for Adults, Tricycle Children, wheelchairs Adult and small, CP Chair, hearing Aid, MSIED kit, Smart cane, Smart phone, Daisy players, Braille kit, Crutches, Walking sticks, Calipers, Artificial Limbs, etc would be distributed free of cost to the beneficiaries.
A total 46 different aids and appliances including Tricycles, wheelchairs Adult and small, CP Chair, hearing Aid, MSIED kit, Crutches, Walking sticks, Rolator, Calipers, Artificial Limbs, etc to the tune of Rs. 0.8 Lakh were distributed free of cost to the 32 beneficiaries.
Speaking on the occasion, District Social Welfare Officer said that the main objective of the scheme is to assist the needy disabled persons by providing durable, sophisticated and scientifically manufactured, modern standard aids and appliances to promote physical, social, psychological rehabilitation of persons with disabilities by reducing the effects of disabilities and at the same time enhance their economic potential.
He also gave an overview of the various schemes of the department and made a general appeal to PRI members and public at large to help others and come forward to avail benefit of these schemes. He also requested pension beneficiaries to submit Aadhaar numbers and link Aadhaar with their Bank Accounts to ensure seamless transfer of benefit as GOI schemes are Aadhaar linked.
The DDC Chairperson and Deputy Commissioner also spoke on the occasion and interacted with the beneficiaries. They lauded the efforts of the Social Welfare Department and ALIMCO for organizing the assessment and distribution camp. They requested beneficiaries to use all the appliances in a sensible and recommended manner as huge public money was involved in the procurement of these aids and appliances. They spoke that the aim of these events is to make the general public aware about the various schemes of the department and asked DSWO to implement schemes of the Social Welfare Department in a mission mode so as to ensure that the benefits reach out to the last man standing in the queue. They also asked ALIMCO to hold more such assessment camps in different parts of the district in the future to ensure coverage of more beneficiaries.
