Ganderbal:: Tourism department in collaboration with NGO has started a massive Cleanliness and Sanitation drive at Gangbal and Shitkudri base camp of trekkers in Ganderbal district.
The drive was started with an aim to make these trekking destinations garbage free and aware the locals about keeping the surroundings clean to preserve natural ambience.
Despite various challenges like steep mountain paths, the participants took upon the task of cleanliness and collected the waste including polythene, plastic bags and plastic bottles from these places which would be later dumped for proper disposal.
Pertinently, Tourism department has initiated several steps to boost adventure tourism activities across Jammu and Kashmir and already several activities have been initiated to tap that potential.
Besides, the department along with stakeholders has conducted mass cleanups and holistic waste management programmes to protect the surrounding environment especially along trek routes and other tourist spots from toxic effluents generated by plastic and general waste.
