LS adjourned for day as deadlock over Pegasus snooping row continues

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Wednesday witnessed five adjournments before being called off for the day as the Opposition members created a ruckus over various issues, including Pegasus snooping row and new farm laws.

Upon reassembling after the fifth adjournment at 1600 hrs, the Opposition Members again trooped into the Well and started sloganeering, forcing Rama Devi who was in the Chair, to adjourn the House for the day.

Earlier also, the proceedings were adjourned five times over the same issues.

As soon as the House reassembled after the fourth adjournment at 1500 hrs, the Opposition Members, carrying placards, entered the Well and started sloganeering.

Amid din, the Supplementary Demands for Grants-First Batch for 2021-22 and the Demands for Excess Grants for 2017-18 were passed by voice vote and without discussion.

Rajendra Agarwal, who was in the Chair, made repeated requests to the agitating members to return to their seats. When his repeated requests went in vain, he adjourned the House till 1600 hrs.

Earlier, when the House reassembled at 1430 hrs, the Opposition Members entered the Well and started sloganeering over the issues.

Amid din, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Rao Inderjit Singh moved the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill 2021 for consideration and passing.

The Bill was passed the Lok Sabha by voice vote and without discussion amid ruckus by the Opposition over various issues, including Pegasus row and new farm laws.

After the passage of the Bill, Bhartruhari Mahtab, who was in the Chair, adjourned the House till 1500 hrs.

Earlier, it was adjourned till 1430 hrs by Rajendra Agarwal, who was in the chair.

Earlier in the day, Speaker Om Birla ran the Question Hour amid sloganeering by the Opposition members.

After the Question Hour, the Papers were laid on the table of the House in the chaos.

Amid sloganeering, Congress members also threw papers at the Chair and Treasury benches but Mr Agarwal, who was in the Chair, tried to continue with the proceedings. Matters under Rule 377 were taken up.

As the ruckus continued unabated, Mr Agarwal adjourned the House till 1230 hrs.

Upon reassembling after the first adjournment at 1230 hrs, the Opposition Members again trooped into the Well and started sloganeering, forcing the Chair to adjourn the House till 1400 hrs.
