Srinagar: Police on Sunday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Handwara and also recovered contraband substances from his possession.
In a statement issued on Sunday police said “Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested a drug peddler in Handwara and recovered contraband substance from his possession”, adding that “Officers from Police Post Zachaldara at a checkpoint established at Sultanpora bridge intercepted a person in a suspicious condition who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and later identified as Farooq Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Sultan resident of Lachipora”.
Stating that during checking, officers recovered 190 grams of charas from the possession of the above named accused, police in it’s statement further said the accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, stating therein further that a case vide FIR No. 242/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation has been taken up.
In the concluding para of it’s above referred statement police appealed people to to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, warning therein that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police in in it’s statement also said consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to reassure the people that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
