Sale, distribution of vegetable seedlings kick starts at Kupwara

Kupwara: The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kupwara Imam Din Saturday kick started sale cum distribution of quality hybrid vegetable seedlings among progressive farmers of district Kupwara at Organic Vegetable Demonstration Cum Training Centre (DCTC), Department of Agriculture Kupwara.
The DC, on the occasion, directed concerned officers for promotion of vegetable production in the district through area expansion under vegetables.
He stressed on viable employment opportunities existing in the agriculture sector and urged the rural educated unemployed youth to come forward and avail benefits from various schemes for self employment.
The DC directed Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), Nazir Ahmad Wani for promotion of High yielding/High Value vegetable crops in the district to achieve Prime Minister’s goal of doubling the farmers income by 2022.
CAO, on the occasion, informed that the department can supply over 6 lac vegetable seedlings for forthcoming Rabi season in three cycles. He also appraised DC about the need and scope of cold storage for storing surplus quantities of vegetables.
