Anantnag: The Director Rural Development Department (RDD) Kashmir, Tariq Ahmad Zargar Wednesday issued directions to officers of the department for ensuring timely payment of wages under MGNREGA adding that the same has become more significant during post lockdown times.
The Director made these remarks while chairing a meeting to take stock of developmental and wage employment works undertaken by RDD in the district, at Verinag, Dooru.
After taking a comprehensive review, the Director stressed to explore all possibilities for generating labour intensive works, maintaining they provide employment to rural people at their doorsteps and become more essential during present circumstances. He called for strict adherence to COVID-19 SOPs at work/project sites so as to avert chances of resurgence in infections.
Emphasising on ramping up the pace of work, Zargar said that work completion within stipulated time frame is an important parameter associated with the development process which must be given due consideration.
Zargar directed the BDOs and field functionaries to conduct spot visits in their respective areas for monitoring the quality and standard of ongoing works. He also enjoined upon them to regularly participate in Social Audit Gram Sabhas besides promptly addressing the public grievances and complaints.
During the proceedings, the ACD gave an overview of the developmental and wage employment projects and works undertaken by the department in the district. Besides, he briefed the meeting about the current status of these works and other initiatives that have been taken during the ongoing season.
The meeting was attended by ACD, Ideel Saleem, Ex. Engineer REW, BDOs and other concerned functionaries of the department.
