Awareness camp on PM-KUSUM scheme held at G’bal

Ganderbal: To sensitize the farmers and the general public about the main features of the PM-KUSUM scheme, a one day publicity cum awareness camp was Thursday organized by Jammu & Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) at Conference Hall of Mini Secretariat here.
Dy. Chief Executive Officer, JAKEDA, in presence of District Development Council Chairperson, Ganderbal NuzhatIshfaq launched publicity cum awareness programme for installation of Solar power Agriculture pumps under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Uthaan Mahabhiyaan ( PM-KUSUM) Yojana in the district.
The programme was attended by DDC Vice-Chairperson, Bilal Ahmad, BDC Chairpersons, DDC members, Additional District Development Commissioner, Chief Planning Officer, Additional Commissioner Development, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief horticulture Officer, other concerned officers, PRIs and progressive farmers.
During the program, the participants were sensitized about the importance of the scheme in reducing the production cost of the crops and facilitating increase in the income of farmers.
On the occasion several speakers highlighted the advantages of solar pumps over the conventional ones and emphasized that with the installation of solar pumps the dependence of farmers on electricity, petrol and diesel would come down considerably and benefit the farmers economically.
It was informed that the PM-KUSUM scheme has been launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), GoI to uplift farmers in the country. In the first phase, 5000 Solar Powered Pumps shall be installed in J&K out of which 2500 will be installed in the current fiscal.
Pertinently, under the scheme, Subsidized Solar Powered Agriculture Pumps in the capacity range of 2 HP to 10 HP shall be installed across the J&K and 80 percent subsidy will be provided by the Government and only 20 percent will be farmer’s share.
