Srinagar: A woman, whose husband was arrested in December 2020 for alleged being a militant, committed suicide by hanging self in south Kashmir district of Kulgam.

Official sources on Sunday said that panic gripped village Churath in Qazigund when the family of a woman found her hanging from the ceiling of her room at their residence. “The family members immediately took her to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead,” they said.

They said after completing all the legal and medical formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to her relatives for last rites. “Police has registered case and initiated investigation into the incident,” they said.

The woman was allegedly suffering from depression after her husband was arrested by security forces in Jammu in December last year. An associate of the man was also arrested and the duo remained lodged in a jail since then.
