Navin visits Agriculture seed multiplication farm Chakroi

Jammu:Principal Secretary, Horticulture, Agriculture Production & Farmers’ Welfare, Navin Kumar Choudhary, Saturday visited Agriculture seed multiplication farm at Chakroi, R.S Pura.
During the visit, Principal Secretary asked the Director Horticulture Jammu to prepare a Detailed Project Report regarding establishment of “Mega Horticulture Nursery for High Density Plants” with latest technologies for production of quality true to type High Density Fruit Plants of Mango, Guava, Litchi, Citrus etc.
The nursery to be developed here will be first of its kind in history of the department exclusively for production of cultivars of high density fruit plants. This will cater to the requirement of high density fruit plants of farmers of Jammu province to a greater extent.
Principal Secretary was informed that a land measuring 100 acre has been demarcated by the local administration at Chakroi farm which is being transferred to the department of horticulture soon.
He asked the officers to immediately start work on different operations like land levelling and fencing and production of planting material. The mega nursery shall be established in next one year while the production of quality fruit plants shall be started in next two years.
Principal Secretary instructed the Director Agriculture Jammu to bring whole barren land of the farm under cultivation. He asked for converting 100 acre of land into four nurseries of 25 acre each for production of hybrid seeds of vegetables, hybrid potato seed, medicinal plants including lemon grass and aloevera besides spices with special focus on red chilli. He also directed for bringing 600 acre of farm land under hybrid wheat seed cultivation during the ensuing Rabi season.
Later, Principal Secretary visited the BOP post and assured them to project their demand regarding macadamisation of road and establishment of transformer for augmentation of electric supply before the concerned authorities. He also assured that the department shall provide fruit plants to the unit for plantation.
Principal Secretary was accompanied by Ram Savak, Director Horticulture Jammu, K.K Sharma, Director Agriculture Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, ADDC Jammu, Ram Lal Sharma, SDM R.S Pura and other officers of the Department of Horticulture and Agriculture.
