Delimitation Panel arriving Srinagar today, likely to hold major mainstream parties

Srinagar: The delimitation commission, which is mandated to draw boundaries of Assembly segments in Jammu and Kashmir, will arrive in Srinagar today to hold talks with political parties, district election officers and other stakeholders, sources said.
Sources said that the panel will arrive at around 12:30 pm in Srinagar. They said the commission will first meet the political parties in Srinagar from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm to hold talks with them on the ongoing process of redrawing constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
The delimitation commission, tasked to carve out new constituencies, will be on a four-day visit to hold consultations with different stakeholders to gather first hand information and inputs about ongoing process of redrawing the boundaries.
Meanwhile, sources said that around 200 delegations have expressed their desire to meet the delimitation commission during its visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
Notably, the commission, which was constituted in March 2020 to redraw the Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies in J&K, is headed by former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai.
Chief election commissioner Sushil Chandra and election commissioner of J&K are members of the commission, while all five Lok Sabha are the panel’s associate members.
Pertinently, the issue of delimitation was also discussed during the all-party meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 24 in New Delhi with leaders from different parties of Jammu and Kashmir.
Soon after the all-party meeting, the delimitation commission announced that it will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir to hold consultations with all stakeholders
