Srinagar:: Police on Monday said that it has arrested six drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued here on Monday police said that a police party from Police Post Janglat Mandi Anantnag at a checkpoint established near Bilal crossing intercepted two persons riding a motorcycle identified as Kowsar Ahmad Khanday son of Mohd Abdullah Khanday resident of Vessu Qazigund and Bilal Ahmad Naikoo son of Nazir Ahmad Naikoo resident of Cheni Chowk Anantnag and upon checking recovered 7160 capsules of banned drugs from their possession following which they were formally arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in the custody. The police in it’s statement further said that officers also seized the motorcycle involved in the commission of crime.
Stating that in a similar incident in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district a police party from Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established near Alstop on Jammu-Srinagar highwat intercepted a vehicle (Xylo) bearing registration number JK14B-6054 driven by one person identified as Mohd Rafiq Barger son of Din Mohammad Barger resident of Lowermunda, police in the above quoted statement further said that during checking, officers recovered 12kgs of Poppy Straw and 700 grams of Charas from the possession of the above named accused who was subsequently arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, stating therein further that the ehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Police in the above referred furthermore said that acting on specific information, officers from Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Choimulla Qazigund intercepted a vehicle (Oil Tanker) with two persons on board identified as Sahab Singh @Rishpal Singh son of Lakhwinder Singh resident of Bagwanthnagar Tehsil Sura, UP and Shanid Gull son of Gull Mohd Bhat resident of Panzath. Stating that during checking officers were recovered two kgs of Poppy from the possession of the above named accused who were formally arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, police in it’s statement said that vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Police in it’s statement once more said that in a similar incident in Ganderbal, officers from Police Station Ganderbal at a checkpoint established at Banday Bagh near Husnush chinar point intercepted one suspicious person identified as Mohammad Shahid Gurra son of Mohammed Shafi resident of Banday Bagh, Ganderbal. Stating that during checking officers recovered 100gms of Charas from the possession of the above named accused who was formally arrested and shifted to Police station where he remains in custody, police in the concluding para of the above referred statement said that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective Police Stations and further investigations have been initiated.
