Statehood the only solution for development of UT : Narayansamy

Puducherry: Former Chief Minister V Narayanasamy has said that obtaining statehood is the only solution to ensure the development of the Union Territory.

In a video clip sent to the media here on Friday night, Mr Narayansamy said the people of Puducherry are well aware the troubles given to the Congress-DMK government by the then Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi in the last five years and alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the opposition parties here had supported the same.

He said statehood is a shield to protect the rights of the people and regretted that the BJP delegation which met the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah failed to mention a single word about statehood for the UT.

This clearly shows that the BJP is not concerned in getting statehood for the UT, the former Chief Minister added.

He said in the Congress government, rowdies were kept under control and now in the NDA government, rowdyism started to surface again and urged Chief Minister N Rangaswamy to nip it in the bud.

Mr Narayanasamy also urged the Central Government to curb the price hike of petrol, diesel and LPG Cylinders.

He also urged the government to ensure that all the people in the Union Territory were vaccinated against Covid-19 by December this year.
