Srinagar: Commissioner Secretary, Floriculture, Gardens and Parks, Sheikh Fayaz, Wednesday convened a meeting regarding promotion of commercial floriculture as a lucrative business for farmers of Jammu & Kashmir.
The meeting, which was attended by senior officers of the department besides experts of EY Consultancy, had threadbare discussion on several important issues related to potential and scope of commercial floriculture in Jammu & Kashmir. Besides, formation of Farmers Produce Organizations (FPOs) also came up for discussion.
Commissioner Secretary underlined the importance of further expanding the area under commercial cultivation of flowers by adoption of cluster approach to enhance productivity. Jammu and Kashmir has a lot of scope for floriculture industry as Jammu & Kashmir can produce quality flowers due to good soil and conducive weather conditions here for growth of flowers, he added. He informed that since the scale of finance for floriculture crops under Kissan Credit Card Scheme has been approved by SLTC for the first time in J&K, the flower growers may accordingly be intimated to avail its benefits.
Commissioner Secretary impressed upon the officers to ensure timely dissemination of information related to Centrally Sponsored Schemes envisaging promotion of Commercial Floriculture as a business enterprise in Jammu & Kashmir.
