Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Handwara & Kulgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
Police in a statement issued here on Saturday said that in Handwara, officers from Police Station Kralgund during patrolling in Renan Ananwan intercepted a suspicious person, who on seeing the patrolling Police party tried to escape from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.
Stating that the above named accused has been identified as Nazir Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Mohi-ud-Din resident of Ananwan Kralgund Handwara, police in it’s statement further said that during checking officers recovered 100 grams of charas from his possession after which he ( the above named accused) was formally arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, stating therein further that preliminary investigation reveals that the said accused person is a notorious drug peddler who was supplying drugs among the youth in the area.
Police in the above referred statement also said that in a similar incident in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district officers from Police Station DH Pora at a checkpoint established at Damhal Hanjipora under the supervision of SDPO DH Pora intercepted a suspicious person identified as Owais Ahmad Parray son of Mohammad Yaqoob Parray resident of Gopalpora and during checking recovered 500 grams of charas from his possession following which he was formally arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in concluding para of its above referred statement said that cases under relevant section of law stands registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
