Commercialisation Of Housing Colonies

The non-stop trends of commercialisation of residential colonies in twin capital cities Srinagar and Jammu and also major towns of both Kashmir Valley and Jammu division was never stopped in the days of pre-covid normality but now when the people have lost jobs in private sector  as a result of the increasing collapse of trading and business activities across Jammu & Kashmir like other parts of the country both the municipal corporations and as well as development authorities of the twin capital cities and other construction regulating agencies of the government are carrying out demolitions drives in both Srinagar and Jammu and major towns of  Kashmir valley and Jammu division. Till full restoration of trading and business activities , the construction regulating agencies of the government could have issued notices to the owners and proprietors of unauthorised commercial constructions in the housing colonies not only in both the twin capital cities-Srinagar and Jammu but also in major towns of both Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division. Surprisingly the construction regulating agencies of the government carry out demolition drives against the illegal constructions allowed in recent years but don’t take action against the ongoing illegal constructions anywhere in Kashmir valley and Jammu division only to let the process of illegal constructions go on unstopped. Wisdom demands that government’s construction regulating agencies keep a vigil over the construction of fresh illegal commercial buildings in the housing colonies in the cities and towns of both Kashmir valley and Jammu division. Unfortunately no probe is conducted into the permissions granted previously for the construction of hotels and shops in housing colonies in violation of building permission rules for the purposes of fixing responsibility on the concerned and punishing them accordingly.

Administrative wisdom demands that a blanket ban is imposed on use of residential houses for commercial purposes and construction of commercial structures in housing colonies and simultaneously the hotels established in the housing colonies are also sealed for the purposes of their relocation in commercial areas.

Building permissions granted for the construction of huge commercial buildings including hotels in the housing colonies in violation of building permission rules in previous years shows that construction regulating agencies of the government are responsible for the increasing construction mess in housing colonies . Private coaching centres hiring commercial buildings for providing hostel facilities to students is yet another unstopped trend of commercialistation of  housing colonies in the twin capital cities- Srinagar and Jammu and Kashmir and major towns of both Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu divisions.  Real estate builders  developing new housing colonies  are further messing up the  trend of commercialisation in housing colonies in connivance with the construction regulating authorities of the government both in the twin capital cities and as well as major towns of  Kashmir valley and Jammu division. Administrative wisdom demands that a blanket ban is imposed on use of residential houses for commercial purposes and construction of commercial structures in housing colonies and simultaneously the hotels established in the housing colonies are also sealed for the purposes of their relocation in commercial areas.
