Jammu:: Registrar Cooperative Societies, Shafqat Iqbal chaired a meeting of the Divisional and District level officers of Cooperative Department to review the progress achieved under various schemes and to discuss other issues related to working of the Department.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the vital issues related to working of the Department and express instructions were issued to work for furtherance of the policies and programmes of the Government. It was informed in the meeting that a number of Cooperative Societies are lying defunct and some of these Societies have the scope for revival while others need to be weeded out from the records of the Department by adopting the procedure of liquidation laid down under the Act.
The field functionaries were directed to furnish a list of such Societies indicating various details which include the date and year since when the Society is lying defunct so that a cogent decision could be taken at appropriate level. It was directed that there is need for focused attention on vital issues which could prove a game changer for the Department and help the Department to regain the past glory. The field functionaries were directed to review the criteria for financial assistance to the Cooperative Societies so that a broad-spectrum is evolved to give maximum coverage of the schemes. Express instructions were issued for renewal of membership of the Societies with priority so that elections are held and democratic character of these institutions is restored. Apart from this, a slew of measures for giving impetus to the Cooperative Movement were discussed.
The meeting was also attended by Dr. Nirupa Rai, Additional Registrar, Kashmir, Mrs. Sonali Gupta, Joint Registrar and other UT level and District officers while the officers from Kashmir Division attended in virtual mode.
