With Dr Randeep Gularia the Director All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi publicly announcing that a third Covid wave in India is “inevitable” which may hit the country most likely in the next three months, the people in Jammu & Kashmir like the people of other parts of the country have to be very careful in their responses to the unlocking measures announced by the government recently. Given the remarks of Dr Gularia the people have to adhere strictly to the covid protocols atleast for next three months. Health warriors once again face a huge challenge due to increasing fear of the arrival of a third wave in next three months and the completion of the incomplete vaccination for target population both in Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division.  There remains little for the people in media and civil society to explain to the people about the precautions people have to take to block the possible third wave  this time when head of the most prestigious hospital of the country AIIMS DElhi talks about the laxity people show in following the Covid-appropriate behaviour.  Apparently it seems that people in Jammu & Kashmir are yet to learn lessons from the experiences of the first and the second wave of covid-19  pandemic as they continue to violate the covid appropriate behaviour at markets and other public places after the start of the unlock process . Overcrowding at public places particularly markets and parks and gardens can prove very dangerous if strict restrictions are enforced at the markets and other places of public attraction including parks and gardens.

A strict vigil over the movement of people in parks and gardens besides markets and other public places is the only way out keeping in view the observations of Dr Gulari on implementation of covid appropriate behaviour for preventing crowding at places of public attractions. Given the fact that even the vaccination of people of 18-44 years age group is yet to be completed, the covid appropriate behaviour has to be followed more strictly. There is absolutely no scope for showing  any complacency till people of all age groups are vaccinated in both Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division.

In an attempt to get respite from sweltering heat the people in both Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division may show desperate tendencies to move to parks and gardens at the weekend days but government has not to show any laxity in enforcing weekend lockdowns strictly across Jammu & Kashmir particularly in and around places lying close to parks and gardens.
