He said annual celebration of the auspicious Mela reinvigorates and strengthens the bonds of communal harmony and brotherhood , the age old legacy and the hallmark of Kashmir’s composite culture and ethos. He said it was heartening and a moment of proud to see muslim and pandit brethren celebrating their religious and social festivals mutually in close unison despite many provocations by the vested interests to break their mutual communal attachments, respect and love for each other. He hoped that the people of Jammu and Kashmir would continue to keep the flag of communal harmony and mutual trust always high to defeat their enemies. Describing exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990 as the darkest chapter of Kashmiri history, Hakeem said that the valley of seers and was eagerly waiting for their honourable return to  Kashmir. He said kashmiri pandit community was inseparable part of Kashmir’s rich and composite ethos adding that the basic concept of ” Kashmiryat ” was incomplete without kashmiri Pandits.
