Jammu:: To provide testing facility at the doorstep of farmers and to acquaint them with the benefits of soil health management, the Department of Agriculture production and Farmers welfare, Jammu organized an awareness camp here at Raipur Jagir, Block Marh.
During the camp the department conducted on spot analysis of soil samples by Hi- Tech Mobile Soil Testing Laboratory with the aim to educate the farmers about the quantum of fertilizer to be used in their fields.
The camp was organized under the guidance of Director Agriculture Dr. K.K. Sharma.
A team of experts from District Soil Testing Laboratory, Jammu headed by its Assistant Soil Chemist Dr. NeerajRajwal along with Research Assistant Dr. R.P. Koachar, Dr. Vaishali Bagal, Dr. Pranav Chadha from the Soil Survey wing of the Department gave firsthand information on Chemical and Physical analysis of field Soil.
Neeraj Rajwal made the farmers aware about the importance of soil testing & use of balanced dose of fertilizer for restoring soil fertility & sustainable crop production. He said that it is a matter of serious concern that the agricultural land is deteriorating day by day due to the excessive use of chemical fertilizers. To protect the soil, the farmers need to get their Soil tested by the Soil testing laboratory of the department and apply fertilizers strictly on soil health card recommendations.
Speaking on the occasion, S. Tajinder Singh, Member Kissan Advisory Board and a prominent farmer, emphasized the need for maintaining good soil health for better production and quality food. He appealed to the farmers to get their soil samples regularly analyzed and accordingly use the required dose of fertilizers, based on the recommendations as per the soil test reports. He said it would help the farmers in increasing their crop productivity and accordingly improve their economic conditions.
Sh. Suresh Sharma Panch, expressed his thanks to the Director Agriculture Dr. K.K. Sharma and Team STL for ogranising such an informative program. The program was witnessed with the presence of progressive farmers of the area.
Later, the soil analysis results were distributed among the farmers in the shape of Soil Health Cards by the team.
