1.01 lac COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in distt: DC B’pora

Bandipora: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad on Thursday said that the district administration is rigorously conducting covid vaccination Drive across the district and has administered more than one lac doses to the eligible population so far.
While briefing media about the COVID-19 situation in the district, Dr Owais said that the district witnessed a visible decline in Covid positive cases and increase in recovery rate. He however said there is a need to continue to follow Covid Appropriate Behaviour with more responsibility amid ease in restrictions.
He said there are 394 active positive patients in the district out of which 55 are hospitalized and 24 patients are on oxygen support in different covid centres.
Dr Owais said the intensive vaccination drive launched in the district is bearing fruits as the front line workers travelled the most difficult terrains to reach the eligible population to vaccinate them at their doorsteps.
He said 101379 doses have been administered sofar out of which 89413 persons were given the first dose while 11966 eligible persons have got both the doses. He said 86.5 percent people above the age of 45 years have been vaccinated so far and soon the target will be achieved.
The DC said that during the second wave of the pandemic, about 2000 tests are being conducted daily.
He said the strict implementation of guidelines led to a decrease in positivity rate to 4.4 percent and is expected to go down to below two percent in near future. He said this week the recovery rate increased by 2.4 percent taking the total recovery rate to 95 percent.
Talking about the ongoing vaccination process, DC urged the people to come forward and get vaccinated, which is the safest way to get protection and help break the chain of coronavirus spread.
Dr Owais said to implement the covid appropriate behaviour across the district, the law enforcing agencies have registered 1306 challans against violators and has realized a fine of Rs 12.50 lac since last year. He said 13 cases have been registered during the second wave and 31 persons have been arrested for violating SOPs.
He said that the strict implementation of covid appropriate behaviour will ensure further decrease in positive cases.
He also urged the general public to adopt social distance, wearing proper masks, and maintaining hand hygiene to keep them, their family and the whole surrounding safe from Covid-19 infection.
