Jaishankar to visit Kuwait on Wednesday, carry PM’s letter to Amir

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will visit Kuwait on Wednesday, carrying a personal letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah.

This will be Jaishankar’s first visit to Kuwait as External Affairs Minister. During the June 9-11 visit, he will hold high level meetings with Kuwaiti officials.

The year 2021-22 marks the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait.

Ahead of the EAM’s visit, Ambassador Sibi George called on Oil and Education Minister Mohammad Abdullateef AlFares, and discussed ways of enhancing cooperation in various fields including hydrocarbons, education and diaspora matters.

Jaishankar will address the Indian community in Kuwait.

There are around one million Indians residing in Kuwait.

Traditionally warm and close bilateral relationship between India and Kuwait is characterized by strong people-to-people connect.

India is amongst the largest trading partners of Kuwait and Kuwait is a major supplier of oil for India.

In recent weeks, to help fight the second wave of COVID-19 in India, Kuwait has provided sustained supply of Liquid Medical Oxygen to India including by establishing an Air/Sea Bridge.

Traditionally warm and close bilateral relationship between India and Kuwait is characterized by strong people-to-people connect.

Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, visited India in March this year. The two countries had agreed to establish a Joint Commission at Foreign Ministers’ level during the visit.
