Jammu: Divisional Commissioner, Dr Raghav Langer Friday chaired a meeting of Deputy Commissioners and Engineers of Jal Shakti to review the water supply scenario in Jammu Division during the ongoing summer season.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti, besides Superintendent Engineers of Mechanical division, Hydraulic, Deputy Director Planning and other concerned while the Deputy Commissioners of Jammu division along with Executive Engineers and Superintendent Engineers attended the meeting through video conferencing.
The Divisional Commissioner took district wise review of the supply position and the Deputy Commissioners apprised the Div Com about the steps being taken at district level to ensure regular water supply in urban and rural areas.
The Divisional Commissioner directed the Jal Shakti Department to activate control rooms at district level and notify helpline numbers including whatsapp numbers for listening to public issues regarding the water supply. He also instructed them to ensure quick action on every stress call. He directed the Executive Engineers and Superintendent Engineers to ensure that immediate action was taken to address each complaint received in the control room. The Div Com asked the DCs to periodically check the action taken on the complaints being received at the control room regarding water availability.
The Chief Engineer Jal Shakti apprised the Div Com about the requirement, availability and shortage of water during summer season. He also informed that in some water stressed areas the department provides water through tankers to meet the shortage during summers.
The Divisional Commissioner directed the Executive Engineers to share the requirements of Mechanical Pumps, standby pumps, additional tankers, POL funds, SDRF funds for water stressed areas with Chief Engineer Jal Shakti and concerned Deputy Commissioners so that necessary action is taken to meet the necessities.
While reviewing the status of hand pumps, the Div Com took strong note of delay in the repair of dysfunctional hand pumps in the districts. He strictly directed the Ground Water Drilling Division to make a comprehensive plan and set the targets for repairing the dysfunctional hand pumps in the districts.
“The repair work should be taken up in coordination with district administration so that maximum hand pumps are made functional through the department and the PRI grants”, he ordered.
The Div Com also directed to keep provision of standby tankers in water-stressed areas to ensure that the public do not face any hardship due to lack of water in the ongoing summer season.
He directed the Chief Engineer Jal Shakti to sensitize his subordinate Staff upto the lowest level regarding this provision.
The Div Com also instructed the Deputy Commissioners to make a list of R&B, PMGSY roads on which the works are being executed and direct the contractors to make temporary arrangements for immediate restoration in case of any damage to the water supply.
