Srinagar: Police in Baramulla on Thursday said that it has seized illicit walnut timber from Awran Palhalan and Wanigam Kreeri areas of district Baramulla.
In a statement issued here on Thursday police said that acting on specific information about timber smuggling, a police party from Police Post Palhalan raided the particular spot and seized walnut timber in village Awran Palhalan. “The accused persons involved in the commission of crime fled away from the spot but they have been identified as Jan Mohammad Sofi son of Gull Mohammad Sofi resident of Dar Mohalla Palhallan, Ghulam Mohammad Naikoo son of Ab Gaffar Naikoo and Ab Rashid Naikoo son of Mohammad Kamal Naikoo both residents of Naik Mohalla Palhallan and efforts are on to effect their arrest”, reads further the police statement, adding that “ officials of Police Station Kreeri arrested one person namely Mohammad Ayoub Khan son of Mohammad Abdullah Khan resident of Wanigam Bala Kreeri who was involved in cutting down the green walnut tree in village Wanigam Kreeri”.
In the concluding para of the above referred statement police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.
