Yesterday I offered Friday prayer in my local mosque only few yards away from my home. I observed a lot of women folk were begging with their little champs in front of the gate. Being a soft hearted person it was a heart- wrenching scene. The fact is that It pinched my heart they too are part of the society they also have some rights but unfortunately everyone is busy in their lives nobody feels their pain and agony. When one looks upstairs on one side there are millionaires and on the other side of the same society are downtrodden people who are living by hand to mouth. The outbreak of coronavirus was stressful and disastrous for poor community. If people are on streets it means society is in complete failure. The poor community of present Society is caught in vicious cycle. As as result poor community can’t gratify his psychology needs, that is need of survival, safety and security. The minimum requirements for fulfilling the physiological needs are nutrition, shelter and provide good health care. This requires minimum income to buy necessities and avail facilities. There is a lot of discrimination on grounds even some sections of the society considered poor people lethargic and burden in the society. They are being harnessed, humiliated and discriminated at every level. They are facing lot of challenges in life because of poverty. Sometimes in offices they are labeled as undisciplined, immature and what not. If they visit any institution weather government or private they receive little attention. Whenever a theft or crime is reported to the police, the police first rushes to the areas inhibited by the poor as it is only the poor who commits’ crimes. Poverty is considered as crime in the society and to earn illegal money by various means is labeled as richness. Currently half the population growth occurs in just six countries- India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia. Due to high population growth and low per capita income it reinforces South Asian countries towards poverty and on each passing day disparities have sharpened because countries like India and Pakistan have completely failed to manage the economic policies. There are many reasons behind this discrimination and one of the solid arguments is dishonesty, corruption and hypocrisy of politicians.
Although India is considered as largest democracy in the world but it iz also crystal clear that Indian politics is driven by money, power and individual greed. In every state of India situation is going from bad to worse. Same is the case with the region of Jammu and Kashmir where politicians and bureaucrats are corrupted from top to bottom. It seems hard and unavoidable to uproot the political corruption because whoever comes in power of position unfortunately using the same power to acquire personal gains. From last many years a complete class struggle iz being observed all over the India that iz why on one side there is sparking prosperity and on the other side there is stinking poverty. One can find five star hotels side by side with darkened ill-starred hovels. Rich becomes richer and poor becomes poorer. As a result many wrong elements are emerging in the society as per the Edinburg study children living in poverty mostly they are involved in crimes. The growth of poverty increased every passing day. In India poverty is the biggest problem despite a richness of resources from length to breadth in the country. Poverty is the great social issue it pushing the young minds into crime. It Is like a punishment without implicating any crime. To eliminate poverty remained a burning slogan in the election campaigns. But the fact is that politicians all around the world are same they exploit the poor people in one way or other it was the Karl Marx who first noted that poverty is because of exploitation. Our politicians promise to build the river where there is no water. The political leaders who have emerged from the last many years should introspect and see what they have done for mother land. Those people who possess black money and are involving in narcotic drugs are being respected in the society. Every department is corrupted from the top to bottom even educational institutions are involved in corruption. There is not a single day when news comes about the misuse of public property for personal satisfaction. Corruption is spreading continuously in the present society and works like a Corona Virus destroys human minds intellectually, socially and economically. The worst disease in the world today is corruption. I talked on mobile phone for a while with my teacher Dr.Amin Ali who is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Kashmir University he said to erdicate corruption from the society a collective approach is needed. He further added, it is necessary that every sector whether public or private should be based on honesty, transparency and accountability. Let me concluded with the quote of Nelson Mandela, “As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality exists in our world, none of us can truly rest.”
