Srinagar: Police in Baramulla on Tuesday said that they have foiled black marketing of rice by seizing a huge quantity of FCI government rice.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday police said that acting on specific information, a police party from Police station Pattan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan at a checkpoint established on NHW near Hanjiwera Pattan intercepted two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK02V-6397 & JK09-3233. “The drivers of these vehicles have been identified as Mohammad Jamal Hajam son of Ab Gaffar Hajam resident of Madmadow Kalaroos Kupwara and Jahangir Ahmad Bhat son of Ab Aziz Bhat resident of Bumhama Kupwara”, the statement reads.
Stating that during search of both the vehicles 366 bags of FCI rice were recovered, police in it’s statement further reads “as per the documents/ challan produced by the drivers against the loaded substance, the rice has been loaded from FCI Godown Kralhar and was meant to be transported to Kulangam Kupwara, instead of taking the rice to Kupwara they were on way to Srinagar for black marketing of said rice”.
Police in the concluding para of it’s statement said that the above named accused have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Pattan where they remain in custody, stating therein further that vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized.
