Div Com Jammu directs DCs to resolve all pending issues of Sainik Welfare Deptt on priority

Jammu: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Raghav Langer Friday chaired a meeting of Deputy Commissioners and concerned officers to review the issues pertaining to the Sainik Welfare department.
At the outset, Director, Sainik Welfare Department gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the functioning, responsibilities of the department, organizational structure and the issues which needs to be addressed.
It was informed in the meeting that the prime vision of the department is to provide meaningful services to Ex-servicemen/ their dependants in J&K through resolution of all pension, resettlement, rehabilitation and welfare related issues and to act as an effective and efficient interface between veterans and the Government.
The Director further informed that the Role of Department is to promote welfare and resettlement of ESM, Assistance in re-employment & Problem resolutions; providing financial relief and to manage 13 Zila Sainik Welfare Offices; 14 Sainik Sarais, 06 Boys Hostel and providing volunteers to various departments etc. The functioning of the Department is regulated by Rajya Sainik Board.
The Department also provide financial assistance for medical treatments, concessions in treatments and the department also provide one time education incentives to wards of retired JCOs/ Widows. Department also provide computer trainings, coaching for competitive examinations to the wards of ESM.
He also highlighted the district wise issues pertaining to verification and extension of land leases, other land issues, repair and renovation of office buildings, boys hostels, approach roads, redress of grievances, other logistics support required from the line departments for smooth functioning of the department.
The Divisional Commissioner directed all the Deputy Commissioners to resolve all the pending issues pertaining to their respective districts on priority. He also instructed them to hold regular meetings with Sainik Welfare Department for resolving the issues at District level.
He also asked the DCs to timely redress grievances of Ex- servicemen/ Widows in the districts.
The meeting was attended by Director, Sainik Welfare Department, Brig. Gurmeet Singh Shan; Additional Commissioner Jammu, besides Zila Sainik Welfare Officers and other concerned while Deputy Commissioners of Jammu division along with other concerned officers attended the meeting through video conferencing.
