DC Kulgam briefs media on covid-19 mgmt, mitigation efforts

Kulgam: Bed occupancy in COVID hospitals has declined in District and presently only 27 patients are admitted in Covid dedicated hospital in Kulgam said the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din-Bhat during a press brief here at Kulgam.
He said that 77 patients were admitted at COVID-hospital before few days ago and now we have only 27 patients admitted here at this hospital.
The District has a recovery rate of more than 77 percent and positivity rate is on decline across the district indicating a significant improvement in the situation of the district, Dr. Bilal added.
This all happened possible only due to the multi pronged strategy and cooperation of people of the district, the DC added.
“Situation seems to be in our favour but we can’t lower the guard against this virus and everyone needs to follow the mantra of social distancing, use of masks, hand washing and have to stick to Covid appropriate behaviour.”
The Deputy Commissioner also informed that 65% of the population of the district above the age of 45 stands vaccinated and appealed to the rest of the population to get vaccinated at an earliest at vaccination sites established across the district.
Vaccination of people from age group 18-45 will be initiated in the district soon and modalities in this regard stands reviewed.
He also appealed to people not to pay heed to rumours and fake news about vaccine and to get vaccinated which is safe and a game changer to combat this pandemic.
With regard to availability of Oxygen in the district, DC said that 1000 LPM Oxygen generation plant at District hospital is functioning properly and adequate bulk cylinders, concentrators are available in the district and we never fall short-of oxygen in the district.
He added that presently there are 2014 positive cases under home isolation in the district and proper follow up of positive patients is ensured besides medical kits are being provided to patients at home isolation containing essential medicines.
It was informed that approximately two thousands tests are carried out every day in the district containing RT-PCR and RAT tests.
He reiterated that the Administration has enhanced infrastructure with better healthcare facilities in the District to save the lives of people.
He added that in order to strengthen Covid care in rural areas covid care centers with capacity of 5 beds have been established at majority of panchayats in district equipped with Oxygen concentrators and other requisite equipments besides primary COVID related drugs are available at these centers.
He advised people to strictly follow the SOP’s and guidelines issued by the administration and health experts so that spread of this disease is curtailed.
