Samba: Amidst the covid-19 crisis, people coming together to help each other has emerged as a silver lining in the dark clouds.
Since the onslaught of the pandemic, many people from different walks of life are joining hands to fight the situation in every possible way. From government and the frontline workers to a common citizen, everyone contributed in their own way.
Social organizations and NGOs in every corner of Jammu and Kashmir have been providing beds, meals, ambulances, oximeters, medical aid etc to the needy. Of many such organizations, Helping Hand Trust- NGO, Khalsa Aid, Samba Social Club, Guidance and Counseling Cell Gurha Salathia, Sewa Bharti Samba and others have stepped forward in district Samba to help the Covid infected people and contribute their bit in the fight .
Hailing the humanitarian gesture coming from different quarters, Deputy Commissioner Samba, Anuradha Gupta said the NGOs and social organizations have been a great support for administration .
“Naming a few, the Industries Association of Samba and Bari-Brahmana have exceptionally supported district administration in all the endeavours be it making available masks, sanitizers and face shields in large quantities, spreading awareness about SoPs has greatly contributed in helping and reaching out to everyone” said DC Samba.
She also mentioned NGOs, social organizations and business houses for providing hygienic packed food to the Covid patients.
While speaking about their initiative, the president helping hand trust NGO Chinkal Thappa, said that he started helping covid pandemic affected persons along with other like minded people from last year. “We took up the task of feeding the poor and serving free meals to covid patients in Hospitals,” he said.
“Initially we started to feed 10 covid patients locally in Bari Brahmana on March 28 last year, later as the cases increased we kept growing and Tuesday packs of more than 500 home cooked food and ration is being provided by our organization to the poor on daily basis”.
Khalsa aid organization, an international NGO has been instrumental in providing medical supplies like masks, O2 concentrators, O2 cylinders, Sanitizers, and other daily required items to the needy persons at home delivery. “Khalsa Aid provides humanitarian aid in disaster areas and civil conflict zones around the world. It is based upon the Sikh principle of treating the whole human race as one” said Gagandeep Singh, Khalsa Aid coordinator Jammu and Kashmir. ‘Only yesterday we provided 05 oxygen concentrators to district administration Samba” added the coordinator Khalsa Aid.
Among other organization providing help to patients, needy and poor people include, Phalwan’s Food point, Sewa Bharti Committee and others. ” We are working round the clock to provide ration (dry) to the poor families affected due to lockdown besides our volunteers are also sanitizing the commercial hubs, ATMs, Hospitals, Public spaces, and other premises including homes free of cost” said representatives of the Sewa Bharti Committee.
The Samba social club is a group of enthusiast people working for the society in generating covid-19 awareness in villages, towns and district level.
“We have been generating covid-19 awareness including government SOPs and do’s & don’ts by way of public speeches, banners, posters and door to door campaigns, by following all safety protocols. People are also encouraged to take vaccination, covid tests and do not hide any symptoms for breaking the transmission chain” added a member of Samba social club.
“LG J&K has pitched for NGOs, volunteers to help the health sector in “non specialized tasks in order to take the pressure off the health care sector amid the surges in covid-19 cases” and this is our motivation for coming out daily to help poor and needy people,” said a young member.
