JKPC’s Mansoor Suhrawardhy demand amnesty on power tariffs to consumers hit by covid-19 pandemic

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference has expressed concern over the reports that the Power department was charging heavy power tariffs amid the ongoing pandemic even to those households whose livelihood has been severely hit due to the prevalent lockdown.

In a statement issued here, former legislator and senior PC leader Mansoor Hussain Sohrawardhy has said that it is extremely disturbing that the power department is sending in electricity bills at far higher rates to its consumers even in the midst of the worst ever phase of the pandemic.

Mansoor said that there are millions of households in Kashmir whose livelihood was affected by the lockdown and those who are on the very verge of starvation. The PDD, says Mansoor, must adopt an assiduous approach at the present time and provide amnesty to those consumers who have no source of income at the present time.

Mansoor also expressed dismay at the non- commissioning of the Regional Water Supply Scheme Shangus whose foundation was laid in the year 2011. The PC leader said that as a legislator had made strenuous efforts in the establishment of the said water scheme and that it was the first of its kind that could have catered to the clean water needs to three major villages namely Chanderwadan Uttersoo, Nowgham, and Shangus. However, Mansoor said, that even when 80 percent of the work has been completed, the scheme is yet to be made functional. He has made an earnest appeal to the administration to intervene and make such an important water supply scheme functional so that the inhabitants could avail a safe and clean drinking facility without hindrance.

The PC leader added that the 22KM road major district road between Achabal and Chattapal is dilapidated and that he has an MLA had laid down the project of the same way back in the year 2009.
“However, due to litigations, the project got delayed till 2013 but the work was again expedited at full scale. PMGSY formally handed over the project to the R&B department and now its shabby condition at present is making the journey extremely cumbersome for the people and that its macadamization is needed at present. I urge the R&B department to prioritize its repair without delay,” Mansoor said.
