Srinagar: Police in Ganderbal on Saturday said that they have arrested a timber smuggler and seized illicit timber.
In a statement issued here on Saturday Police said “acting on specific information about timber smuggling, a police party from Police Station Kangan under the supervision of SDPO Kangan raided the particular spot during the intervening night of May 21st and May 22nd and seized large cache of illicit green timber from one person identified as Mohammad Rafiq Bajard son of Ghulam Hassan resident of Laman, Baba Nagri Kangan area of district Ganderbal following which he was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that a case vide FIR No. 44/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kangan and further investigation has been initiated, Police in the concluded para of its above referred statement said that drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of timber, reiterating therein that efforts are on to keep society free of crime.
