Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Friday started it’s special drive against illegal and unauthorised constructions being attempted under the garb of COVID 19 lockdown. A special task force team led by Joint Commissioner Planning Ghulam Hassan earlier constituted by Commissioner SMC Athar Amir on Friday inspected several areas in Ward Karan Nagar to look into the constructions in the different areas of Ward 22, i.e., Karan Nagar.
During the drive, the team on identifying the deviations in approved building plans, illegal and unauthorised constructions at certain places initiated action including sealing & demolition in accordance with the Municipal Corporation Act. The designated team also checked building permissions at constructional sites and have directed people not to make deviations in the approved building permissions. The task force comprising of Chief Enforcement Officer, Chief Anti Encroachment Officer, Estates Officer, Anti-polythene Officer, Zonal Officers have been directed to recommend action in cases where connivance or involvement of officials is found. Commissioner SMC personally supervised the drive and called for on spot sealing of one structure near Petrol pump in Karan Nagar after finding the gross violation in the court orders on the said structure.
The constructional material, machinery including mixer at site was seized on spot. Earlier several demolitions had taken place in different areas of the city including Gund Hasi Bhat, Zakura, Maloora and one Structure has also been sealed, at Baghi Mehtab. The drive will continue and will be taken up in all the wards of the city as per the schedule in place.
