Though increasing no of daily covid deaths in Kashmir shows that the situation is more grim in Kashmir valley than in Jammu division keeping in view the fact that no of covid deaths in Kashmir which used to be below twenty till the beginning of this week has now crossed even the magic figures of 30 covid deaths in this region also but unfortunately the government is misinterpreting dip in covid cases in Kashmir as improvement in the spread of the ongoing spread of covid-19 pandemic in this region. By all standards of understandabilities the latest government decision asking for no second covid test to those declared positive in the first test could be a reason for the dip in the no of positive cases in both Kashmir valley and Jammu region. Though administrative wisdom demands that any misinterpretation about the daily positive cases and fatalities would by all means further deepen the covid crisis in both the Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu region but unfortunately government misinterprets the figures about the dip in positive cases to evade public criticism over the non availability of oxygen supply, ventilators and vaccines in the government run hospitals. Knowing that this is the time to take some bold initiatives for increasing the no of oxygen beds, ventilators and anti-covid vaccines both in the government run hospitals and as well as the private nursing home the government will have to announce and execute a fast track plan for fully equipping hospitals with oxygen beds and ventilators and also taking the vaccines to the door steps of people in both rural and urban areas of both Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division.
Equipping government run hospitals with oxygen beds and ventilators and leaving the private nursing homes unequipped with such facilities would again deepen the already deepening covid crisis in Jammu & Kashmir. The situation demands immediate announcement of a health emergency plan and it’s implementation on the ground without resorting to any falsehood over the increasing gapes in the demand and supply of oxygen beds and ventilators in both the government run hospitals and as well as private nursing homes.
Unless and until the government does not fast track the process of vaccination across Jammu & Kashmir, any misinterpretation of figures about daily no of positive cases by the government would never ever reduce the intensity of the increasing public anger as ultimately the government will have to raise the standards of health safety measures to reduce the increasing frequency in the no of covid fatalities both in government run hospitals and as well as private nursing homes.
