The OIC: A Toothless Organisation

The OIC Stand for Organisation of the Islamic Conference is the world’s second largest inter-governmental organisation after the UN, with a membership of 57 Muslim majority states. The objective of the OIC is “to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world”. The OIC has reserved membership for Muslim-majority countries.It is pertinent to mention that the Palestinians have been witnessing bloodshed and persecution since very long by the hands of illegal Israeli settlers. The Balfour Declaration issued by the British government in 1917 for the establishment of a “national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine was the main reason for sowing the seeds conflict in palestine. Palestinians have been denied right to live, freedom of speech,right to move, right to settle, right to do business etc. Thousands of innocent unarmed Palestinians are being killed and wounded by the israeli airstrikes and have been rendered homeless.their lives have now become the hell due to high handedness by the illegal armed settlers. The tensions began in east Jerusalem earlier this month when Palestinians protested attempts by settlers to forcibly evict a number of Palestinian families from their homes and Israeli police measures at Al-Aqsa Mosque, a frequent flashpoint located on a mount in the Old City revered by Muslims and Jews. The OIC held an emergency meeting on Sunday after It has once again come under heavy criticism for failing to come up with a strong response against the Israeli violence targetting Palestinians. The OIC members condemned the Israeli attacks in its virtual meeting on unarmed people of the palestine and pleaded for the peace in the region.
It is the high time for OIC member countries to show unity and determination for Palestine and its unity and oneness is the need of the hour and better for the all Muslim Ummah across the world.
The OIC is toothless as it has no powers that makes it weak and loss of trust and faith by the people of Muslim countries. the views and stand of the OIC members also differ and vary from one another in respect of any issue whether Palestine issue, Kashmir issue, etc. The most OIC members from various Muslim countries are not supporting the Palestinians because fear of losing their trade partner Israel. Most OIC member countries are involved in trade war, proxy war, blocks etc and only few countries among the OIC like pakistan, Turkey and Iran are very serious in getting the Palestine issue resolved once for all. They want innocent palestinians right to live, right to freedom, right to trade and business, right to move, right to settle etc. The support of the voice of voiceless Palestinians by few countries among OIC is like putting cart before the horse. It will not bear any fruits unless and until all members speak in a one voice.The OIC being aware of the fact that the unabated barbaric Israeli attacks on Palestinians will prove dangerous and will have consequences of the deliberate inflammation of religious sensibilities and provocation of Palestinians and the Islamic Ummah. Violences, discriminations and persecutions faced by Palestinians continued unabated since long by Israeli settlers are raising fingers at so called international peace making organisations like The UNO, The OIC etc.The OIC’s just condemning the act of Israeli settlers on unarmed Palestinians will not bring peace in the Palestine, it must pressurise and called upon the international community to play its role in order to reach a just and lasting solution to the conflict in Palestine and fulfill the aspirations of the Palestinian people. Otherwise, it will add to the volcano on each passing day that will explode any time in the future with a big bang and engulf the whole world in the form of the third world war that can be the most disastrous. It is the high time for OIC member countries to show unity and determination for Palestine and its unity and oneness is the need of the hour and better for the all Muslim Ummah across the world.
