Covid-19 Lockdown violations: 869 violators fined, 83 FIRs registered, 157 arrested: Police

Roads wore a deserted look as people offered night long prayers in view of Shab-e-Qadr in their homes following strict lockdown was enforced by the authorities to combat the spread of COVID-19 positive cases in Kashmir valley on Monday.

Srinagar: Amid surge in COVID-19 cases and deaths, Police registered 83 FIRs ,arrested 157 people , and also realized fine of Rs1,33,275/- from 869 violators in the last 24 hours in Kashmir for defying the prevailing lockdown restrictions imposed for containing the disease transmission.
“The police is taking all measures to implement strict lockdown restriction announced by the government for containing community transmission of the covid -19 pandemic”, said police in a statement issued on Tuesday.
In the above referred statement police said that 83 FIRs were registered and 157 people were arrested for violating the lockdown order announced by the government anf 55 vehicles and 02 motorcycles were also seized in Baramulla and Bandipora for violating guidelines/restrictions,In Budgam police has booked 05 shopkeepers for violating Covid-19 norms.
Stating that to ensure strict implementation of Corona restrictions and adhering of guidelines issued by Government in view of Covid-19 pandemicSSP Kupwara along with Deputy Commissioner Kupwara on Tuesday conducted market checking in Kupwara town and it’s adjacent areas, Police in it’s statement also said that Handwara police distributed ration kits and other essential commodities among the poor and needy families, stating therein that the distribution function was held by SDPO Handwara.
In the concluding para of its above referred statement police appealed people to cooperate with it in containing the spread of Coronavirus by following the SOPs/ guidelines/ protocols for the safety of the people.
