Srinagar, May 2 (UNI) As many as 629 people have been fined while 13 others arrested during the last 24 hours in Kashmir valley for violating COVID curfew and other guidelines imposed by the administration to curtail the spread of the virus.

A police spokesperson said that since the outbreak of second wave of Coronavirus, J&K Police has enhanced its efforts to sensitise the masses about controlling the highly contagious infection. “Slew of measures, including restrictions under section 144 CrpC, has been put into place to contain the spread of Covid-19,” he said.

He said in view of the record surge in daily cases across the Kashmir Valley, Police also enhanced the efforts to implement the Covid-19 guidelines and restrictions strictly throughout the valley.

“During last 24 hours, Police has arrested 13 persons, lodged 14 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 77,171 from 629 people for violating the guidelines/rules throughout Kashmir valley,” he said.

Besides, he said 11 vehicles and four two-wheelers were also seized for violating guidelines/restrictions. “The special drive against the violators of Covid-19 guidelines/rules continued throughout all the districts of Kashmir Valley,” he said.

He said Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad-IAS accompanied by SSP Bandipora Mohammad Zahid and other officers visited various places/markets of Bandipora to inspect the implementation of restrictions and Covid-19 guidelines. “During the visit, the officers impressed upon the people to exhibit compliance to the government directions for larger public safety and health and also sought their cooperation,” he said.

He said the Bandipora DC also appealed traders/transporters to strictly follow government orders and Covid-19 SOPs so that the infection rate may be significantly reduced. “Community members are once again requested to cooperate with the Police in containing the spread of Coronavirus by following the SOPs/guidelines/protocols for the safety of the people,” he said.

“The special drive shall remain continue throughout the districts of Kashmir Valley to strengthen the safety measures,” he added.
