Srinagar: Police on Thursday that it has arrested a drug peddler in Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from his possession.
A police statement issued on Thursday said “under the supervision of SDPO Qazigund and SHO PS Qazigund, officers from Police Post Mirbazar at a checkpoint established near FCI Mirbazar intercepted a vehicle (Wagon-R) bearing registration number JK13D-7482 with one person on board identified as Farooq Ahmad Sheikh son of Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh resident of Naina, Pulwama”.
Stating that during checking officers recovered 10.5Kg of poppy straw and 200gms of Charas from the said vehicle, police in it’s statement said “ the accused has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody and a case vide FIR No. 80/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Qazigund following which investigation was subsequently taken up”.
Police in the concluding para of it’s statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
