Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam, Baramulla and Handwara and also recovered contraband substance from their possession.
Police in a statement issued on Monday said “In Budgam, officers at a checkpoint established near Adina crossing signalled a person to stop, but he tried to escape from the spot during which the alert police party apprehended him tactfully”.
Stating that the accused was identified as Abdul Rasheed Hajam @Rasheed lala resident of Peth Makhama Budgam, police in the above referred statement said “during checking, officers recovered 150gms of Charas and cash amount of ₹15,500/- apparently sale proceeds of drugs from his possession following which he was formally arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody, police in the above referred statement further said “ a case vide FIR No. 63/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Magam and investigation was taken up”.
Police in it’s statement also said that in Baramulla also officers at a checkpoint established at Mohura Bridge intercepted an individual identified as Mohammad Sajad Badan Khan resident of Dachi Uri and recovered from him 121gms Heroin following which he was formally arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody”, stating therein that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in P/S Uri and further investigation is in progress.
Police in it’s statement further said that in Handwara also Officers from Police Station vilgam at a checkpoint established at Manzgam Bridge intercepted a person identified as Fareed Ahmad Bhat son of Ali Jan Bhat resident of Tumna and recovered 10 grams of Heroin from his possession.
Stating that the accused was going to sell the drugs among youth of upper Hafrada especially among college going children of the area, police in it’s statement said “ the accused was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. Meanwhile a case vide FIR No. 30/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Vilgam and investigation has been taken up”.
In the concluding para of it’s above referred statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein that actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
