Srinagar/April,16 : One-way Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) traffic was on Friday allowed on Srinagar-Jammu  highway after shooting stones on Thursday evening forced suspension of the traffic on the highway .
Traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu shut on Thursday evening due to shooting stones near Ramsu leaving hundreds of Kashmir bound LMVs and HMVs stranded between Magarkote and Digdool and other places., but the National Authority of India (NHAI), responsible for the maintenance of the highway immediately put into service sophisticated machines and men and cleared the stones. Later, maximum LMVs were cleared. However, HMVs were stopped.Though no fresh Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) was on Friday allowed from Jammu or Srinagar but stranded HMVs between Nashree and Ramban were allowed to resume their travel to Srinagar, said a traffic police official. LMVs were  on Friday morning allowed to move from Jammu to Srinagar, he said, adding, that no vehicle was allowed from opposite direction. However, the LMVs were  on Friday asked to cross Nagrota between 0500 hrs to 1200 hrs and Jekhani Udhampur from 0600 hrs to 1300 hrs, he said, adding that, ‘no vehicle will be allowed after cut off timing’.
He said only stranded Kashmir bound HMVs were allowed to move from Magarkote and Digdool. The government forces were advised not to ply against traffic advisory in view of traffic congestion on the highway, he said. Meanwhile Srinagar-Leh highway and historic Mughal road remained closed due to accumulation of snow and avalanches.
