Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Anantnag and recovered psychotropic substance from his possession.
In a statement issued on Tuesday police said “officers at a checkpoint established at Mattan Chowk intercepted a person identified as Tawseef Ahmad Lone resident of Lalipora Malpora and recovered from him 10 strips of banned drugs.
“On the disclosure of the accused, 500 tablets of banned drugs and 100 bottles of Codeine were recovered from paddy fields at Lalipora following which the accused was formally arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody”, the police statement reads, adding that “accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 82/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Anantnag and further investigation has been initiated”.
In the concluding para of it’s statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein that “actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace”.
