While the people in Kashmir seek explanations from Kashmir mainstream parties over their stated positions on bifurcation of the erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir’s state into two union territories and scrapping of it’s special status enjoyed by it under article 370 and article 35 A for 70 long years , they shamelessly talk about restoration of statehood to one union territory of the divided state and early assembly elections for restoration of popular rule . Shamelessly the Kashmir’s over a dozen mainstream leaders known for their defections to not just one but many parties only in hunt for power both before and after the central government’s August 5 constitutional moves on erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state are now tending to deflect the attention of the people from promises of the unity and integrity of the erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state and protection of article 370 and article 35 A to the demand for statehood and early assembly elections for early restoration of popular rule. The political defectors of yesteryears coming together to demand statehood and early assembly elections instead of demanding reunification of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladhak union territories with statehood and restoration of special status under article 370 and article 35 A is virtually their attempt to subvert the struggle of the political parties and non political groups seeking restoration of the erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state and the special status under article 370 and 35 A in the apex court of the country. The political defectors showing their desperate tendencies to accept the central government’s August 5 decisions on the bifurcation of the erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state into two union territories and withdrawal of special status under article 370 and article 35 A owe too many explanations to the people of Jammu & Kashmir for their hasty actions without trying to evolve a broader consensus with political and non political groups within and outside Jammu & Kashmir union territory challenging the central government’s August 5,2019 decisions in the apex court of the country .
Setting a new agenda and divorcing the grand old promises on statehood and special status is an attempt of the professional political defectors to carry forward their politics of deceit and ill intentions which has ruined a glorious state of yesteryears It is time for mainstream to rethink about their trends and tendencies in view of the growing public resentment against their provocative actions after the recently held DDC elections in Jammu & Kashmir.
Leaders talking about statehood and early assembly elections obviously tend to bring in a combination of old faces to run a new political set up under new rules against the whims and wishes of the people in the emerging political order in the newly carved Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory.
