Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Anantnag & Bandipora and also recovered huge consignment of contraband substance .
A police statement issued on Wednesday said that a police party from Police Station Bijbehara at a checkpoint established at Tulkhan crossing intercepted two persons identified as Lateef Ahmad Shah son of Mohd Qasim Shah and Azad Ahmad Shah son of Mohd Shaban Shah, both residents of Nambal Mattan, adding that,on checking, the police party recovered 15 bottles of codeine phosphate from the possession of the accused following which they were formally arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody.
Stating that a case FIR number 64/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Bijbehara and investigation was initiated, Police in it’s statement further said “during the course of investigation, the arrested duo revealed that they have bought codeine phosphate from the house of one person namely Gh Hassan Dar resident of Tulkhan Bijbehara following which a team headed by SDPO Bijbehara under the close supervision of SSP Anantnag Imtiyaz Hussain raided the location”.
Claiming the during searches 1715 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from a 7 feet deep dumped pit near the kitchen garden, the police in it’s statement said “investigation into the matter is going on and more arrests are expected”.
SSP Anantnag Imtiyaz Hussain , according to the police statement, has expressed gratitude to people of Anantnag for being forthcoming in supporting the endeavour of police to eradicate the menace of drugs in the District. “He reiterated the firm resolve of Anantnag police to go to the last criminal to ensure that everyone involved in the illicit trade is brought to justice and rule of law is enforced” , reads the police statement.
Stating in another incident Bandipora police in it’s statement said “Officers at a checkpoint established at Pethkote Bandipora intercepted a person identified as Abdul Rashid Gojer son of Abdul Rehman Gojer resident of Yali Pethkote and recovered huge quantity of Charas from his possession”.
Police in it’s statement also said that the accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, adding that , a case FIR number 11/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Pethkote and further investigation has been initiated.
“Preliminary enquiry revealed that the accused drug peddler was selling the drugs to youth of the area, especially in and around Mantrigan & Pethkote areas of Bandipora” reads the concluding para of the statement.
