Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Anantnag, Bandipora and Sopore and recovered huge quantity of psychotropic and contraband substances from their possession.
A police statement issued on Monday said “ acting on a specific information, officers at a checkpoint established at Lal Chowk area of Anantnag, intercepted one person with 50 bottles of Welcyrex and identified him as Imtiyaz Ahmad Ganai resident of Poshkeeri”.
In yet an another similar action on a specific input, the joint teams of PS Bijbehara and PS Anantnag along with Executive Magistrate, according to the above referred statement, raided the house of Sajad Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Khaliq resident of Arwani and seized 330 bottles of Welcyrex from his house.
Stating that both the accused persons were arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody the police in it’s statement further said that the whole operation was conducted under the supervision and directions of SSP Anantnag and assured that such operations will continue in future with same vigour and zeal by Police and drug peddlers will be dealt with heavy hand.
The police statement also said in another similar incident in Bandipora, officers from PS Bandipora at a checkpoint established at Kaloosa Bandipora arrested one person along with large consignment of Charas and Clonzepam tablets identified him as Nazir Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Kahliq Bhat resident of Kaloosa Bandipora. “A case vide FIR No.43/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Bandipora and further investigation has been initiated” police statement reads.
According to the above referred police state the Police in Sopore also have arrested a drug peddler at a checkpoint established at Achabal Chowk and recovered 40 grams of charas and illicit liquor from his possession. Stating that the said drug peddler was identified as Muhammad Altaf Lone son of Abdul Khaliq Lone resident of Saloosa Achabal Sopore, police in it’s statement said “ the detained drug peddler has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody and a case vide FIR No. 84/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Sopore and investigation initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding anti social elements in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in anti social activities will be dealt as per law, stating therin that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in police-public meetings.
