PC: New Home To Political Factionalists

Since most of the new political entrants in Sajad Lone led Peoples’ Conference have more experience and expertise in factional politics and very less in grass root level politics, the future of Peoples’ Conference by all standards of political understandabilities is unpredictable. Since the irrefutable fact is that political factionalists pose a greater threat to the survival and stability of a political party than giving it the strength required for competition in polls politics . As such political observers within and outside Jammu & Kashmir would like to restrain themselves from jumping to conclusions about the future of Peoples’ Conference rather than giving the party the recognition of a viable political alternative to National Conference the oldest grass root level party in Jammu & Kashmir or even to the Jammu & Kashmir Apni Party just one year old political baby trying to throw up a challenge even to the oldest grass root level mainstream party National Conference. Unfortunately even the political heavy weights who have joined Peoples Conference recently too are the products of factional politics as most of them have though grown in size and strength due to absence of a viable political alternative to National Conference but finally they failed to demonstrate their political existence at the grass roots in the recently held district development council (DDC) elections in both Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division.

Political factionalists pose a greater threat to the survival and stability of a party than a defectors as a defector after quitting the party can never ever damage the very fabric of a party but factionalism if allowed to continue too long shakes the party at the grass roots and finally results in nonstop wave of defections as has been experienced in Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) after the fall of erstwhile PDP-BJP coalition government of the erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state in July 2018.

Showing political existence in a hostile political atmosphere by all standards of understandabilities is the biggest strength of political leaders even if they are the products of factional politics but political factionalists failing to show their existence at the grass roots in an unfavourable political atmosphere can’t give strength to any political party as defeat even in a panchayat or municipal election bring into question even their own political survival. Also remember the fact that political factionalists pose a greater threat to the survival and stability of a party than a defectors as a defector after quitting the party can never ever damage the very fabric of a party but factionalism if allowed to continue too long shakes the party at the grass roots and finally results in nonstop wave of defections as has been experienced in Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) after the fall of erstwhile PDP-BJP coalition government of the erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state in July 2018. So better for Peoples’ Conference not to bank upon the past performance of the political factionalists joining the party out of situational compulsion but not by conviction and instead try to build up it’s own cadre at the grass roots.
