Srinagar : Senior congress leader, Saif Din soz on Saturday said that Union Territory Govt.’s action in allotting 496 kanals of land to a Hindu Temple Organization – Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Trust is illegal and unconstitutional.
In a statement issued on Saturday he said that, “I have a strong feeling that the J&K Union Territory Govt. had acted in a wrong direction by allotting 496 Kanals of land to this Hindu Temple Organization. It is a totally illegal and unconstitutional act”.
“My understanding is that a vast majority of the people of Jammu and Kashmir State have a feeling that the J&K Govt. has no authority to allot the Jammu and Kashmir State’s land to any organization like this”,he added.
He also said that J&K Govt. has acted in a manner as if it is by itself not secular. “The constitutional position is that no land in the J&K State can be allotted to any religious organization without any legal sanction”,he added. “I want to say it further that this kind of wanton communal action can have far- reaching adverse effects on the J&K’s secular institutions”,he said. “The J&K y Govt. should have imagined that it is bound to act only on the basis of the provisions of the Constitution of India and the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir State”,he added.
